Memorial Day Championship for Southern Nationals
Bonus Series is May 29th at Tri-County Race Track
Tri-County
Race Track located in Brasstown, NC finishes off a huge Memorial
Day racing weekend with the first of two visits by the Schaeffer's
Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series on Monday Night May 29th
and the Seventh Annual Memorial Day Championship Race.
The Southern Nationals Bonus Series will take to the Ray Cook-promoted
Western North Carolina oval during the Memorial Day special
racing for $3,000-to-win and $300-to-start. The Limited/Crate
Late Models ($800-to-win), Interstate Welding Modified Street
($500-to-win), Street Stocks ($300-to-win), Pony class ($300-to-win)
and the Beginner Class ($250-to-win) will all be racing during
the night’s activities. A $300 Bonus to the highest finishing
Limited Late Model/Crate Late Model that doesn't win will also
be given.
The Southern Nationals Bonus Series made two previous visits
to Tri-County Race Track in 2016 with Jonathan Davenport of
Blairsville, Ga. sweeping the Memorial Day Championship and
Tarheel 50 races. David Payne of Murphy, N.C. leads the point
standings with a slim eight point margin over Donald McIntosh
of Dawsonville, Ga.
There have been two different winners in two races so far this
season. Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. won the season opening
Shamrock race at Boyd's Speedway and Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg,
W.V. won the series' most recent Mike Roland Memorial event
at Richmond Raceway.
The Southern Nationals Bonus Series will utilize the following
Tire Rule for Tri-County on May 29th: American Racer 44, 48
& 56 (RR option only) and Hoosier 1300, 1350 & 1600
(RR option only). The Southern Nationals Bonus Series-sanctioned
event will see a full racing program of practice, Qualifying,
Last Chance Heats and the 40-lap main event. At each Schaeffer's
Oil Spring Nationals, Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals
and Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series event in
2017, the highest finishing CT525 engine in the main event will
receive a $200 bonus and the highest finishing Steel Head/SPEC
engine will also receive a $200 bonus.
On Monday May 29th the pit & grandstand gates open at 4:00
pm with the Driver’s Meeting slated for 6:00 pm and racing
to begin at around 6:30 pm. Adult General Admission is $18.00
with children ages 11-16 admitted for $10.00 while children
ten and under are free. Adult Pit Passes are $30.00 while children
ages 11-16 admitted for $15.00 while children ten and under
are free. Also, any veterans or persons with a Military ID will
receive a free meal ticket to the concession stand Monday night.
